Literally Saving Face

Winter is upon us and with season change comes skin change. This means that it might be time to switch up our skincare routine. Some of us are lucky and notice very little differences in our skin during winter months. I however am not one of those people, winter means dry flaky skin for me. If you're with me, follow along...

The key to saving face is balance. It's important to moisturize, but over doing it will cause the skin to go haywire. The same thing happens if we try to dry out oily skin, it kicks into overdrive and produces more oil. We are meant to have natural oils on our face and it's important not to take all of them away. Harsh cleansers tend to strip the skin of those beneficial oils and cause irritation.

It's also important to note that what works for my skin, might not work for yours. It takes some trial and error to find out what makes our skin happy. I've talked to people who have had the same skincare routine for years and religiously stick to it. If you're fortunate enough to be one of these people, by all means stick to it. If you are reading this because your skin is driving you crazy, I have some tips. For anyone that would like to give my current routine a try, I can send you some samples if you send me a message on the contact page. I just whipped up a fresh batch of our Facial Soap and once that cures I will be offering my routine in a convenient set as well.

Now for my tips...
  • Drink lots of water, it's not just for summer. If your like me and struggle to drink enough water in the winter, try setting a goal. I make sure I've had 4 glasses before lunch and 4 before dinner. Drinking a glass of water before and after a hot shower makes a big difference too!
  • Exfoliate, this makes for happy skin.
  • Moisturize, but don't over do it. If your skin is really dry over greasing it will make it angry, remember balance is key. Remember to moisturize after cleansing as well.
  • Some of us are probably fine to coat our faces in concealer, again, not me. Heavy coats of makeup can clog pores and irritate skin. I find that certain areas of my face will tolerate makeup better than others. I personally stay clear from anything on the forehead, nose and chin, but as i said what works for me might not work for you.
  • Sleep... getting our beauty sleep is a real thing.
  • Last but not least, don't stress. Not only is it not good for our entire body, skin doesn't like stress either.
Now for my routine...
  1. I use our Lavender & Lemongrass Facial Scrub. Packed with Pink Himalayan Salt, Lemon & Orange peel. I use this every couple of days before cleansing. Removing the flakes before cleansing makes it easier for a cleanser to get into those pores.
  2. To Cleanse I use the Facial Bar. With Swirls of Activated Charcoal and Bentonite Clay to help balance oil and pull out dirt.
  3. To Moisturize Saving Face Moisturizer. I designed this to have very little oil in it to help minimize breakouts. I use this after cleansing before bed.
  4. Saving Face Spritz is perfect for freshening up in the morning.
  5. Once or twice a week I use either the Matcha Smoothie Mask or the Pamper Your Face Mud Mask. The Matcha Mask is better for skin that tends to be dry and the mud mask is great if your skin is more on the oily side.
