Sending Sunshine

One of my favorite things to do for someone that needs a little cheering up is send a Box of Sunshine. "What's a Box of Sunshine?" you ask.
A Box of Sunshine is a package full of sunshiny, yellow, cheery goodness that is sure to "turn that frown upside down". I can't take credit for the "Box of Sunshine" idea, but whoever came up with it rocks! I came across the idea scrolling through Pinterest  a few years ago and it's been a go-to ever since.

Now, what kind of person needs a Box of Sunshine? Personally, I think we could all use a little sunshine, but the idea here is to send this to someone who needs a little cheering up. Here's a few examples: a friend going through a breakup or divorce, someone suffering from an illness, a friend or family member who has recently lost someone close to them... you get the idea right?

There are two key factors to a Box of Sunshine. The first being that the box is filled with yellow (you might have slight variations, orange works too). The second is that it needs to be filled with things that cheer the person up. If you know the person really well it's easier to fill the box with things that they love and enjoy. If you don't know the person really well, that's okay! I've compiled a list of sunshine just for this occasion.

I'll be honest, every time that I do up a Box of Sunshine I struggle to find yellow things to put in it. Most people don't want yellow nail polish or yellow socks, though I've sent both! In an effort to make a cheerier Box of Sunshine I searched far and wide for all things yellow.

If you want to make up a quick box and don't have time to shop online and wait for shipping this is your list. These things can be found at a local grocery or department store:
  • Golden Oreos (yum!)
  • Lay's Potato Chips
  • Candy - Peanut M&Ms, Butterfingers, Mr. Good Bar, Lemon Heads, Juicy Fruit, etc.
  • Post-it-Notes
  • Yellow smiley face stress ball
  • Celestial Seasons, Lemon Zinger Tea
  • Yogi Tea, Honey Lavender Stress Relief Tea
  • Yellow Mug
  • Yellow Nail Polish (if that's their thing)
  • Yellow Candle
  • Yellow Play Dough (this is always a hit)
  • Happy Face Stickers
  • A Cheery Card

If you have some time, these things can be found online:
  • Pocket Full Of Sunshine Card by cardcellarbysharon
  • Sunshine Necklace by simpleremindersca
  • Sunflower Sticker by pergamopapergoods
  • Yellow Ring Holder by AndoverPottery
  • Sunshine Flower Seed Paper by recycledideasfavors
  • Sending Sunshine Box Kit by Paper Paisley
Here you can find our Sunshine Products that we designed just for something like this.

If you're short on time our Sunshine Gift Crate is perfect for cheering people up and we can ship it directly to the recipient. We can also include a special message, just leave us a note at checkout.

A few pointers:
  • Be silly (this is usually a sure fire way to cheer someone up)
  • When shipping pay attention to things like temperature (in case of melting)
  • Use yellow tissue paper (lots of it so nothing gets damaged during shipping)
  • Smile (in order to send sunshine, you must have some sunshine yourself)
... No really though, you're awesome. Go ahead and share some of that awesome sunshine-iness (totally made that word up) with those you love!

We (Pure Bliss Body Confections) are in no way affiliated with the companies/products that are mentioned above with the exception of our own products. The above lists were compiled based on our opinions/web browsing and organic search. We have not been paid in any way by the mentioned companies.
